The funny thing is that before Lee Pace got the role of Thranduil, David Tennant was offer the role originally and it was rumored for a while that he was going to play the elf king.
However, he never did because apparently his then girlfriend (later wife) got pregnant and he couldn't stay away from her for the long shooting schedule in New Zealand. In the end, Lee Pace got the role instead.
So by making this, you pretty much just showed us what it would have looked like if David had gotten the role.
